OUTPATIENT SPEECH AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

SPEECH THERAPY
Pediatric speech and language pathologists are specially trained to evaluate your child for difficulties related to functional communication. They will gather information about your child from our intake paperwork, the parent or guardian who brings the child to the evaluation, and from any assessments or tests they feel are indicated to come up with a plan of care. Once the evaluation is performed, the SLP will determine if services are medically indicated for your child. If so, they will work with you to come up with a schedule for your child to attend speech therapy on a regular basis, based on your family's needs and funding information. Include but not limited to: Articulation Receptive/expressive language Social and cognitive communication Oral-motor skills Fluency Voice Literacy and pragmatic communication Apraxia (motor speech)
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Occupational Therapy Pediatric occupational therapy is focused around a child- led, play based approach to help children gain the skills necessary to meet developmental milestones, engage in meaningful activities, and function in their environment at the most optimal level. Occupational therapy provides supports for physical, social, sensory, cognitive, emotional, and feeding needs. Our pediatric occupational therapists are specially trained to evaluate your child. They will gather information from our intake paperwork, the parent or guardian who brings the child to the evaluation, and from any assessments or tests they feel are indicated to come up with a plan of care. Once the evaluation is performed, the occupational therapist will determine if services are medically indicated for your child. If so, they will work with you to come up with a schedule for your child to attend occupational therapy on a regular basis, based on your family's needs and funding information. ​ Include but not limited to: Gross motor skills Fine motor skills including handwriting, utensil use for eating, dressing themselves Cognitive skills including planning, sequencing, and other executive functions Praxis (or how your child moves)
FEEDING PROGRAM
Our feeding program is comprised of both occupational therapists and speech and language pathologists who have specialized training in the SOS Approach to feeding. This is a sensory-based approach for children who are picky or problem eaters. They integrate oral-motor, sensory, and nutritional approaches in order to comprehensively evaluate and treat children and infants with feeding or growing difficulties. Our feeding therapists will gather information about your child from our intake paperwork, the parent or guardian who brings the child to the evaluation, and from any assessments or tests they feel are indicated to come up with a plan of care. We ask that you bring preferred and non-preferred foods with you to the evaluation so that we can observe their eating habits. Once the evaluation is performed, the therapist will determine if services are medically indicated for your child. If so, they will work with you to come up with a schedule for your child to attend therapy on a regular basis, based on your family’s needs and funding information. ​ Limited types of textures tolerated Not eating enough or taking in enough calories Gagging with new foods Limited variety of foods tolerated Refusal of foods Difficult mealtime behaviors Areas targeted within our feeding program: Expanding food and liquid variety Help with managing NG- or G- tube feeds including weaning Chewing Self- Feeding Strength in mouth, tongue, and jaw for feeding Cup drinking
AUGMENTATIVE DEVICES
Our therapists utilize both high-tech and low-tech approaches to help children use assistive technology in a way that is functional for them and your family. They use combined approaches for communication with sign language, picture exchange, device-based approaches etc. depending on what is most appropriate for your child. Also available in our facilities is equipment (toys) that can be operated by switches to make playing with items accessible to children who have difficulty using their hands for any reason (ex. low tone or congenital anomalies). Our therapists can provide suggestions for accommodations that can be made at home, or other equipment that might be purchased for home use.
